Driving $730M Platform Development through Strategic Leadership

"Extremely professional and a pleasure to work with. They are responsive, respectful of our brand, and the quality of their work is outstanding."

Jeff G., SVP Delivery

The Challenge

A leading utility company undergoing a merger needed a $730M unified platform to integrate diverse systems across departments. The challenge involved aligning technical requirements, user experience, and stakeholder priorities while meeting tight deadlines. Accenture, tasked with delivering the solution, required strategic and creative leadership to ensure success.

To complicate matters, tensions were high after the merger. Many employees on both sides of the deal were happy to have the outside help, but there was some very outspoken opposition to outside consultants with no dog in the fight coming in and making a mess. Part of my job description was to win hearts and minds, and convert opponents into allies.

The Strategic Solution

  1. Cross-Functional Team Leadership: Directed multidisciplinary teams to align design, technical development, and business objectives.
  2. User-Centric Platform Design: Developed a seamless UX strategy that prioritized usability for internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Agile Execution: Implemented agile workflows to ensure iterative progress and quick responses to shifting priorities.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Delivered executive-level presentations that articulated the platform's vision, aligning diverse stakeholder groups.

The Measurable Outcome

  • Successful Delivery: Integrated diverse systems into a cohesive, scalable solution.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Executives praised the clarity and alignment of the process.
  • Enhanced Usability: Streamlined user experiences increased efficiency across departments.
  • On-Time Completion: Delivered within the merger’s critical deadlines.

Key Takeaways for Business Leaders

  1. Cross-Functional Alignment is Critical: Large-scale initiatives succeed when design, technical, and business teams are aligned.
  2. Prioritize Usability: A user-centric approach ensures adoption and long-term success.
  3. Agile Methods Drive Progress: Flexibility and iteration allow for successful delivery in complex environments.
